During the holidays, most families in Mississippi will choose to watch the Egg Bowl, eat leftover Thanksgiving turkey, or brave a trip to Wal-Mart on Black Friday. The Tate family, however, break out their playing cards and play a game of Shanghai. It is a version of rummy known as 'contract rummy' where players play multiple rounds of cards and have to collect certain cards per round.
"I think it's a good way to bring everyone together," Mary Sue Tate of New Albany said. "Most young kids are into their electronic devices, and they sometimes miss out on being closer as a family."
Mary Sue Tate and her family usually play multiple games during the holiday weekend. She said that while most of her children enjoy playing the game, some of them are too competitive and get mad while playing. Either way, she and her grandchildren enjoy the togetherness of the family during each of their games. The video to this story is linked here.
