The Cost of Getting Ahead

Intersession classes are a chance for students to catch up or get ahead on their studies. The University of Mississippi offers students intersession courses in the Winter and Summer.

The cost of the courses varies drastically depending on whether or not the student is out of state and how the student is paying for their tuition. Currently an out of state undergraduate student must pay $1,149 for a three hour intersession course. In comparison an in state undergraduate student pays only $638.25.

Out of state or not, for students paying with college loans, intersession courses become an out of pocket expense because their loans regard the courses as an extraneous expense.

This makes it difficult for students on a strict budget to take the courses. Because of this students unable to afford the courses may miss out on educational opportunities that are only available during intersession.
