Increase in Abandoned Oxford Pets

When spring rolls around, and it's time for the Ole Miss students to pack up, most head home with a better sense of mind and a brighter future; however, it's what some leave behind that has the Oxford Humane Society worried. Each year, when Ole Miss seniors graduate, the local animal shelter has an unfortunate increase in the number of abandoned pets.
"The shelter can only hold so many pets, before we have to say no, and start euthanizing. We only have so much room," said Oxford Animal Shelter secretary, Hattie Alton. The Oxford Human Society isn't alone in their fight to save abandoned animals. 9 Lives Cat Rescue is a relatively new no-kill cat shelter in Oxford, that turns most of the cats it saves over to Petsmart in Tupelo, Mississippi in hopes that more animals will be adopted.
