How an Ohio Musician Changed Oxford, Mississippi's Late Night Culture: The Story of Square Pizza

A former member of Mississippi's alternative country jam-band the Kudzu Kings, Ohio native Tate Moore created a recipe for success when he opened Square Pizza on the Oxford Square in July of 2007.  Although he still plays, Moore's passion for pizza is is plain to see.  After purchasing the original recipe from an Ohio pizza baker, Moore began rolling out the handmade dough and perfecting his product.  The gourmet pizzeria is currently open for lunch and dinner and features menu items such as sandwiches, salads and pepperoni rolls.  But it is the cheesy, crispy, uniquely square slice served 'til nearly one in the morning Thursday through Saturday that keeps Moore and his five employees busy.

Although Moore does not serve alcohol, his restaurant has become the after hour hangout of choice for Ole Miss students looking to keep the party going.  Students of all ages gather in and around the small building to mingle, make plans, and yes, even eat pizza. "I do give out a lot of free water," says Moore, who usually does not mind the rowdy crowd, which seems to come with the territory.  To learn more about this cornerstone in Oxford culture, take a look at the video below.
