The SEC has recently named Junior Laura Van de Stroet as the Women’s SEC Player of the Week. Van de Stroet went 4-0 in singles and doubles to lead the rebels to important road victories against SEC school’s Auburn and Alabama. With these wins the Rebel’s were able to clinch the SEC West Championship and the first SEC West title since 2005.
Van de Stroet has won her last eight out of nine SEC singles matches. She also teams up with Abby Guthrie in doubles and they have won their last 15 out of 16 straight matches. Her combined scores have put her at the top of the Lady Rebels team and in the SEC.
Ole Miss is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation and hopes to improve their standings after the SEC Tournament in Athens, Georgia this weekend. With the help of Van de Stroet and other key players, Ole Miss will look to push their way to an overall SEC victory. They will face Arkansas on Friday, April 23 in the second round of the tournament. The final championship will be played on Sunday.
