Grizzlies Spur Hopes and Development in Memphis

The Memphis Grizzlies have given people in the "Bluff City" something to be proud of. The Memphis Grizzlies started playing basketball in Memphis in 2001 whenever they made the move from Vancouver, Canada to Memphis, Tennessee. For years, the Grizzlies have been a so-so team in the NBA and have made it to the playoffs just three times in franchise history. The Grizzlies are still seeking there first playoff series win.

But the Grizzlies still mean a lot to the people who live in Memphis. Downtown businesses thrive on the Grizzlies games. With recent success, the Grizzlies have stirred up an energy in Memphis that city officials said could bring over 100,000 people to downtown Memphis this weekend when the Memphis Grizzlies take on the San Antonio Spurs.

The Mississippi White Knights Talk About the Klan Today


The Mississippi White Knights are a small group of 20 members of the national group the Ku Klux Klan. There are 13 states total in the United States that have chapters. The Klan does have a violent past, the last lynching was of Michael Donald in 1981 in Mobile, AL.

The Klan today is trying to show that it has changed and do not burn crosses in people's yards or kill anyone. They are more concerned with speaking at rallies. Bill Reid, one of the interviewees, left the Alabama chapter because of the violence.

University of Mississippi Subway: Highest Grossing in Region


The Subway franchise is the largest restaurant chain in North America and the Subway at The University of Mississippi only adds to its nation wide reputation. Since it opened in the fall of 2010, it has averaged over 6,000 customers a week and holds the title for highest grossing store in it's region. Although Ole Miss continues to increase meal options on campus through Aramark, Subway still reigns supreme as most students number one choice. In a recent poll, out of 24,000 Subway locations in the United States, The University of Mississippi Subway was ranked 12th in sales. This is just the kind of success that Aramark was looking for when orginally deciding to open the restaurant. Subway's Ole Miss location manager, Kyle F. Brown, says that an overwhelming amout of students voiced a longing to see a Subway on campus, so Aramark delivered. This restaurant thrives on customer service and many of the employees believe that this is the reason students keep coming back. Click here for more on this story.

Meek School of Journalism Dean Will Norton met with the school's advisory board at the conclusion of Journalism Week. The advisory board is made up of a dozen media professionals who advise the school and its students on journalism matters.
